A RESOLUTION
HONORING THE LIFE OF
ANN FEARS CRAWFORD
WHEREAS Ann Fears Crawford, born in Beaumont, Texas, on August 26, 1932, and who departed this life on May 14, 2004, was a life-long resident of East Texas, a long-time active member of the East Texas Historical Association, and a committed teacher and writer of the history of Texas; and
WHEREAS, Ann Fears Crawford was a graduate of Beaumont High School and the University of Texas, taught history in several Texas high schools, including her alma mater, Beaumont High, and taught history at a number of colleges, including Sam Houston State University, Southwestern University, Austin College, and for the last ten years of her career at Houston Community College; and
WHEREAS, Ann Fears Crawford was acknowledged by her colleagues as a committed, effective, and a “dramatic and colorful” teacher devoted to her students and the subject she taught, and recognized for her courage and determination to continue to teach and serve her students during her final illness; and
WHEREAS, Ann Fears Crawford was a noted biographer and writer of Texas history who published books for children as well as adults, including biographies of Sam Houston and Jane Long for young readers, and John B. Connally: Portrait in Power and an edited edition of The Eagle: The Autobiography of Santa Anna; and
WHEREAS, Ann Fears Crawford was a committed supporter of women’s rights and a practitioner of women’s history in Texas through works she wrote in partnership with Crystal Sasse Ragsdale, such as Women in Texas and Texas Women: Frontier to Future;
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the membership of the East Texas Historical Association laments the passing of this “good and faithful servant” on May 14, 2004, extends sympathy to her family and friends; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be spread upon the minutes of the Annual Meeting and another presented as is appropriate to the family of Ann Fears Crawford, that they may know of the love, affection, and esteem in which she is yet held by all.
