Judge Joe J. Fisher
A RESOLUTION
HONORING THE LIFE OF
JUDGE JOE J. FISHER
WHEREAS, The Honorable Joe J. Fisher, a native of San Augustine County, located in the heart of East Texas, remained proud of his East Texas heritage for all of his ninety years: and
WHEREAS, Judge Fisher was educated in the public schools of San Augustine and Houston, attended Stephen F. Austin State University, and received his LL.B. degree from the University of Texas in 1936: and
WHEREAS, Judge Fisher served as county attorney for San Augustine County, district attorney for the First Judicial District of Texas, and federal district judge for the Eastern District of Texas for forty years: and
WHEREAS, Judge Fisher was a member of the State Bar of Texas, the American Bar Association, American Judicature Society, an honorary member of the Order of the Coif at the University of Texas Law School, recipient of the Rosewood Gavel Award from St. Mary's School of Law, named Outstanding Trial Judge by the American Trial Lawyers, and an honorary doctorate of laws from Lamar University: and
WHEREAS, Judge Fisher was named a member of the Hall of Fame by the Alumni Association of Stephen F. Austin State University, the Hall of Fame of Texas Lions, and a member of the Philosophical Society of Texas, Texas Historical Commission, the Texas State Historical Association, and the East Texas Historical Association: and
WHEREAS, Judge Fisher retained a life-long interest in the history of East Texas, expressed through faithful membership in the Association, thorough reading of its Journal, and interest in its programs, which often produced requests for copies of papers when his schedule did not permit attendance at meetings:
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the membership of the East Texas Historical Association laments the passing of this .'good and faithful servant" on June 19, 2000, extends sympathy to his family and friends, and pledges every effort to sustain the programs and activities he loved and supported with time and resources while yet among us: and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be spread upon the minutes of the Annual Meeting and another presented as is appropriate to the family of Judge Joe J. Fisher, that they may know of the love, affection, and esteem in which he is yet held by all.
