Claude H. Hall

A RESOLUTION
HONORING THE LIFE OF
CLAUDE H. HALL

Claude H. Hall recently passed away in April 2001 in Bryan, where he lived since 1951. Dr. Hall was born in 1922. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II in campaigns in Italy and North Africa. After the war he attended the University of Virginia and earned his Ph.D. in 1954. The same year he came to Texas, and married the former Inez Wingfield, with whom he raised two sons.

Hall was a long-time professor of history at Texas A&M University, where in 1958 he became the first person to represent the School of Liberal Arts as recipient of the Distinguished Teaching Award. He was author of Able Parker Upshur, Conservative Virginian, 1790-1844 and was awarded the H. Bailey Carroll Prize in 1968. Hall was also a member of the Central Baptist Church, where he was known for his edifying Sunday School lessons. He was a Life member and past president of the East Texas Historical Association.
