Lucille Morgan Terry

A RESOLUTION
HONORING THE LIFE OF
LUCILLE MORGAN TERRY

WHEREAS Lucille Morgan Terry, born in Longview, Texas, on January 27, 1910, and who departed this life on December 27, 2001, was a charter member of the East Texas Historical Association and namesake of the Lucille Terry Historical Preservation Award, sponsored jointly by the Association and the Texas Forestry Museum, and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Terry, a graduate of Texan Women's University and an educator, made her home in Jefferson, Texas, following her marriage to Dr. William Seth Terry, and is forever associated with the historical preservation of that community and especially of its Excelsior Hotel, along with her cherished friends in the Jessie Allen Wise Garden Club; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Terry's devotion to historical preservation extended even to touring Jefferson in a pickup truck to harvest artifacts discarded by others for restoration projects; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Terry was an active member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Jessie Allen Wise Garden Club, and the East Texas Historical Association, along with many other civic and interest organizations; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Terry, and her beloved husband, known to most East Texas historians by her familiar reference to "Doctor," were faithful attenders of all functions of the Association while health permitted and remained financial supporters of the Lucille Terry Historic Preservation Award that others might be encouraged to "go and do likewise;"

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the membership of the East Texas Historical Association laments the passing of this "good and faithful servant" on December 27, 2001, extends sympathy to her family and friends, and pledges every effort to sustain the programs and activities she loved and supported with time and resources while yet among us; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be spread upon the minutes of the Annual Meeting and another presented as is appropriate to the family of Mrs. Lucille Morgan Terry, that they may know of the love, affection, and esteem in which she is yet held by all.
