A RESOLUTION
HONORING THE LIFE OF
NORMAN BLACK
WHEREAS Norman Black, born in Bosque County, Texas, in 1926, and who departed this life on December 11, 2005, was an esteemed historian, advocate of historical preservation, and a long-time member of the East Texas Historical Association; and
WHEREAS, Norman Black, graduated from Longview High School, completed college and dental school, and practiced dentistry in Longview and Gregg County until he retired in 2004; and
WHEREAS, Norman Black, was an avid amateur historian with a passion for the discipline, known as Gregg County’s unofficial historian, and an committed proponent of historical preservation; and
WHEREAS, Norman Black, served as volunteer with the Gregg County Historical Commission for twenty-five years, then was appointed by Gregg County officials as the Chair of the County Historical Commission, a position he held for eighteen years; and
WHEREAS, Norman Black, was a member of numerous civic and professional associations, and was presented with an award by the Texas Historical Commission for his outstanding contributions to the preservation of Texas history;
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the membership of the East Texas Historical Association laments the passing of this “good and faithful servant” on December 11, 2005, extends sympathy to his family and friends; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be spread upon the minutes of the Annual Meeting and another presented as is appropriate to the family of Norman Black, that they may know of the love and esteem in which he is yet held by all.
