Barry A. Crouch

A RESOLUTION
HONORING THE LIFE OF
BARRY A. CROUCH

WHEREAS Barry A. Crouch, who was born in Glendale, California, in 1941, and who departed this life on March 13, 2002, was a long time member of and participant i n the East Texas Historical Association; and

WHEREAS, Barry A. Crouch grew up in California, Kansas, and Colorado, and received his B.A. degree from Western State College of Colorado, M.A. degree from the University of Wyoming, and his Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico, and spent almost all of his professional career in the Washington, D.C. area, Texas and East Texas were the subjects of his scholarly work, and he regularly participated in the historical associations of the Lone Star State; and

WHEREAS, Barry A. Crouch was a serious scholar whose work focused on the history of Reconstruction in Texas, and who wrote several books, numerous articles, and made many scholarly presentations on this topic and related issues; and

WHEREAS, Barry A. Crouch attended the East Texas Historical Associations meetings and presented his work there, and published in the Association's journal; and

WHEREAS, Barry A. Crouch received grants and other support from the National Endowment for the Humanities and was honored for his work in Texas history by being named a fellow of the Texas State Historical Association; and

WHEREAS, Barry A. Crouch was a dedicated teacher, respected and admired by his students, and a historian noted by his colleagues and friends for the seriousness and quality of his work as well as for his generosity and helpfulness;

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the membership of the East Texas Historical Association laments the passing of this friend and colleague on March 13, 2002 extends its sympathy to his family and friends; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be spread upon the minutes of the Annual Meeting and another presented as is appropriate to the family of Dr. Barry A Crouch, that they may know of the esteem and affection in which he is yet held by all.
