Seth R. Walton, JR.
A RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE OF
SETH R. WALTON, JR.
WHEREAS, Seth R. Walton, Jr., born in Grand Prairie, Texas on December 19, 1925, and departed this life on February 10, 2007, at his home in Marshall, was a distinguished historian and scholar, and a Charter and Life-time member of the East Texas Historical Association; and
WHEREAS, Seth R. Walton, Jr. graduated from Wills Point High School and then attended Baylor University where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees in history and political science, and did additional academic work at the University of Texas and the University of Colorado; and
WHEREAS, Seth R. Walton, Jr. served his country honorably in World War II, participating in the Vosges Mountains campaign in France with the 397 th Infantry of the 100 th Division and was awarded a Purple Heart, a Combat Infantry Badge, and a EAME Theatre ribbon with two Bronze Stars for contributions to his country; and
WHEREAS, Seth R. Walton, Jr. taught history and political science at Cumberland college from 1951-1954 before taking a position at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, where he taught for thirty-five years, until his retirement in 1989; and
WHEREAS, Seth R. Walton, Jr. pursued his love for history through his involvement with a number of historical organizations, including the East Texas Historical Association, the Southern Historical Association, and the Organization of American Historians, and was a charter member of the Harrison County Historical Society and a member of the Longview History Club; and
WHEREAS, Seth R. Walton, Jr. was an active member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Marshall, and an active member of the Marshall Lions Club, the Friends of the Public Library, and Marshall Masonic Lodge No. 22;
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the membership of the East Texas Historical Association laments the passing of this "good and faithful servant" on February 10, 2007, extends sympathy to his family and friends; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be spread upon the minutes of the Annual Meeting and another presented as is appropriate to the family of Seth R. Walton, Jr., that they may know of the love and esteem in which he is yet held by all.
