A RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE OF

Dorman Winfrey

WHEREAS Dorman Hayward Winfrey, born in Henderson, Texas in 1925, departed from this life on March 27, 2009 in Austin, Texas; and

WHEREAS, Dorman Hayward Winfrey was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the 69 th Infantry Division; and

WHEREAS Dorman Hayward Winfrey, attended University of Texas; and received his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in History; and

WHEREAS, Dorman Hayward Winfrey served as a research associate with the Texas State Historical Association, state archivist at the Texas State Library, University of Texas Archivist, and director of the Texas State Library and Archives until he retired on November 30, 1986; and

WHEREAS, Dorman Hayward Winfrey published numerous books and articles on Texas history; and

WHEREAS, Dorman Hayward Winfrey was a good friend and long-time supporter of the East Texas Historical Association;

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the membership of the East Texas Historical Association laments the passing of this "good and faithful servant" on March 27, 2009, extends sympathy to his family and friends; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be spread upon the minutes of the Annual Meeting and another presented as is appropriate to the family of Dorman Hayward Winfrey, that they may know of the love and esteem in which he is yet held by all.
